CBN stone on copper-tin (Metallic) bond of Poltava Diamond Tool Factory. Monolayer bar on a blank for Hapstone sharpeners
The stones are on the new M1001 binder - improved binder of 2021, in which nickel, titanium is added, which allows the stone to work longer and less greasy!
CBN stones are the most productive, efficient, and durable among abrasive stones. High performance and efficiency is achieved by using 100% diamond concentration, and durability is due to the metallic Copper-Tin bond that holds the CBN grains firmly in place while working.
What is the difference between CBN stones and diamond stones? And why is elbor better/more expensive?
The fact is that CBN, unlike diamond, works much softer and does not leave such deep "scratches" on the RK in the process of work. This is possible because of the difference in crystal shapes. In diamond, the crystal structure is tetrahedral (less number of cutting edges + sharper angles of cutting edges of the crystal - hence such an undesirable "aggressiveness" of diamond), and in elbor the crystal structure is octahedral (more number of cutting edges + less sharp angles - hence greater productivity and softness of work).
