These particular stones are designed to be used with oil. A light application of honing oil before and during the sharpening process will help to lubricate the stone, reduce friction, and prevent metal particles from clogging the surface.
In terms of maintenance, these stones require minimal upkeep. However, we recommend lapping them with silicon carbide powder every 12-16 months to refresh the abrasive surface and ensure optimal performance.
