Hello!
That's a great question about combining stones from different systems. Here's the thing:
While you can technically use your Work Sharp PPA diamond stones for the coarser grits and then switch to Hapstones for finishing, there's a potential overlap in your grit progression with the Venev 1200/1500 stone.
The Venev 1200/1500 should already provide a good level of polishing. In fact, the 1500 grit side of the Venev stone is roughly equivalent to a 4000 grit Hapstone Premium stone in terms of finishing capabilities.
Therefore, you might find that you only need the Hapstone 8000 grit stone for the final finishing touch, rather than both the 4000 and 8000. This could save you some money and simplify your sharpening process.
Here's a suggested progression:
- Work Sharp PPA Diamond: Use your coarser grit diamond stones for initial shaping and grinding.
- Venev 1200: Refine the edge further with the 1200 grit side of the Venev stone.
- Venev 1500: Polish the edge with the 1500 grit side of the Venev stone.
- Hapstone 8000 CBN: Achieve the final, ultra-fine finish with the Hapstone 8000.
This approach allows you to leverage the strengths of both systems while optimizing your grit progression and potentially saving on the cost of additional stones.
Of course, if you find that you need a wider range of finishing grits in the future, you can always expand your Hapstone collection.
I hope this helps!
